Just Trying To Fit In….

This is a performance film inspired by my research into labyrinths, and making choreography notes in the form of stick-men (stick-women!). I wanted to make something that is playful and slightly disorienting, where the boundaries between 2D and 3D become unstable. It became a work about identity and trying to fit in – the performers are working with, and against, the system.

I am interested in activating my sculptures through performance and interaction, and in using time as an element so that a performance can be understood as a four-dimensional sculpture.

The project is a continuation of my ongoing exploration of pattern and surface, and the relationship between sculpture and the body. It is my first film and I enjoyed how it allowed me to make this self-contained visual world.

Big thank you to the amazing performers Megan Brown and Rachael Brien!
